Debit Card International Usage
Because of increasing debit card fraud in foreign countries and the subsequent losses that can be
sustained, we have placed restrictions on debit card usage outside of the United States. These restrictions are designed to minimize customer inconvenience, while protecting our Bank from financial
loss.
Merchant Categories with No Restrictions on Purchase Amount
There are no restrictions on merchants in the categories listed below. This means that your purchases
will be authorized for transaction amounts up to either your available balance or daily purchase limit, whichever is less.
Transportation: airlines, car rental, gasoline, train tickets, bus tickets
Lodging: hotels, motels, resorts, sporting & recreational camps, trailer parks, and campgrounds
ATM Withdrawals with No Restrictions
There are no restrictions on ATM withdrawals in foreign countries. This means that your ATM withdrawals
will be authorized for withdrawal amounts up to either your available balance or daily ATM
withdrawal limit, whichever is less.
Merchant Categories with Restrictions on Purchase Amount
Transactions with merchants in all other categories are limited to $200 per transaction.
Cash Advance Restrictions
Debit card cash advances at foreign financial institutions are limited to $200 per transaction.
Don’t Forget
Please remember these restrictions apply to debit cards only; they do not apply to credit cards. If you
plan to travel internationally, please review these restrictions thoroughly. Unfortunately, these debit
card restrictions cannot be customized at the customer level.
Since these restrictions do not apply to Commonwealth Bank Credit Cards, we would suggest that
you take that card as you travel. We do have the ability to post a memo on your Credit Card account
advising of your planned international travel. If you do not already have a Commonwealth Bank
Credit Card, please contact your branch or account officer for more details.
